CAPRERA
Location: Pietranico, Terre di Casauria, Abruzzo, Italy.
History: Agricola Caprera was founded by Luca Paolo Virgilio and Alfonso Morelli. Their shared passion for agriculture and authentic expression drives the winery's philosophy. The "Vasche," ancient rock-hewn grape presses found on the property and surroundings, signify a connection to the region's rich viticultural heritage.
Vineyards: Caprera cultivates 4.5 hectares of vineyards, divided between their own Caprera and Feudo sites. They also source grapes from a premium vineyard site of his friend in Capestrano, Gran Sasso National Park.
Focusing on indigenous grape varieties well-suited to the region: Trebbiano Abruzzese, Passerina, Pecorino, and Montepulciano. The hillside vineyards bask in Pietranico's unique microclimate, with warm Mediterranean sun balanced by cool mountain breezes.
Montepulciano thrives in the distinctive blue marl and clay soils ideal high water retention capacity, while white clay and limestone ensure intensely flavored, concentrated grapes for the white wines.

Viticulture: Organic principles and a commitment to minimal intervention guide their vineyard practices. Native cover crops weave through this landscape, in a complete eco system, reflecting Caprera's holistic approach and their dedication to a thriving, biodiverse environment.
Winemaking: A natural, artisan approach defines Caprera's winemaking philosophy. Wines undergo spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, utilizing techniques like pied de cuve. The whites are de-stemmed, softly pressed, followed by no filtration, clarification, and stabilization. This focus on purity, freshness, and minimal intervention allows the wines to reflect the vintage's character.
Fun fact: Agricola Caprera isn't your average farm! Out of 22 hectares, only 4,5 are dedicated to grape production, demonstrating commitment to biodiversity practices. Their first vintage release was a premium quality olive oil in 2013, and they also produce pasta from local wheat varieties – a testament to their multifaceted dedication to quality
